Here is another one of the verses I carried around with me in college! Boy oh boy do you see all kinds of crazy things on a college campus!
Ladies, God thinks you are beautiful just the way you are right now! You don’t have to look like a movie star, wear the latest designer clothing, do your hair and makeup a special way, or be super skinny like a supermodel for God to notice you. You don’t have to be happy, inspirational and smiley all of the time. You don’t need to put on a show. God sees past all of it. He knows when you are faking it. He knows when you are being real. When He looks at you, He sees your heart. Most likely you have looked in the mirror at least once today. Have you done a heart check today?
The Bible says that we shouldn’t fuss too much with our outward appearance. For us ladies, it sure can be easy to spend a lot of time trying to look our best! We are often mortified if anyone sees us when we first wake up! Never would we be caught dead at an important event without having spent a little time sprucing up. And we sure can spend a lot of money of the latest and greatest beauty regimens. So much time, money and energy is spent on our appearance! Just remember that God created beauty and He created you!
Some of us could honestly say that if we spent half as much time in God’s Word as we do shopping for and applying our beauty treatments, we would have the Bible nearly memorized. Ask yourself, “How do I want people to remember me?” Do you want them to remember you just for your good looks and handsome appearance? Or do you want them to remember you for who you really are on the inside?
“Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror.” James 1:23
“Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.” 1 Peter 3:3-4
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7
“As a ring of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a lovely woman who lacks discretion.” Proverbs 11:22
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.” Matthew 23:27-28
God sees your inner beauty and cares about what you look like on the inside. None of us is getting any younger. I am personally thankful I have a God who can see past my outward appearance! (Although I must remember that He designed it!) If this was how God judged us, most of us would be in trouble! Everyone has flaws; no one is perfect. God does not want people who think they are perfect. God wants people who are humble and seek to be pure and righteous.
Young ladies must try not to stumble men with their appearance. “But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart” Matthew 5:28. Women can be so clever and try to look a certain way so men will think certain things. Do you really want a man see you, judge you and desire you only by your exterior, or do you want a man to love you for who you really are and to see you as God sees you?
What is more important to you: the praises of man or the praises of God? Who do you seek attention from most? Who do you desire to please? For whom do you really want to look good? A Christian should spent some time caring about her spiritual wardrobe and makeup! And God is the ultimate spiritual fashion and makeup designer! He will make you shine before men, if you let Him. You will radiate and glow so much that people here on Earth will take notice. They will think, “Hmmm…something is different about her. I can’t out my finger on it, but I like it!” What is the difference? God’s transformation! It’s amazing, and it’s better than anything this world has to offer!

“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.” 2 Corinthians 14:6

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. “I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.” 1 Timothy 2:9- 10

Ladies, pray this prayer: “Dear Lord, thank you for loving me just as I am, a beautiful creation. Let me see myself as you see me. Please help me to cast off the clothing, makeup and attitude of this world and help me replace it with purity, modesty, humility, kindness, goodness, love and righteousness. Help me to honor you not only with my words and my deed, but with my body too. Amen.”
