King of the Jews

Luke 23 33

It is interesting to examine where Jesus died. He was crucified between two criminals. One acknowledged his sin and knew he deserved to be punished, while the other kept his pride and saw fit to hurl insults even while he was dying as a rebel. One rejected Jesus as King of the Jews, while the other heard Jesus say, “Today you will be with me in paradise.” One mocked Jesus while the other marveled Him. One man knew Jesus was innocent while the other saw Him as nothing more than a mere man near death. One man feared God, and the other did not.

Every single one of us here on Earth will have to personally decide who Jesus is to him or her. Is Jesus a mere mortal who lived and died, or is He really the Son of God who rose from the dead and saved mankind? As Christians we can be thankful that we have already made this decision. Because we believe that Jesus died on the cross, our sins have been forgiven, we have the Holy Spirit living inside of us, and we will one day be in paradise too as our days here on Earth come to an end. Sadly, those who deny Christ will spend eternity in Hell and be separated from the love and light of God. This is a true tragedy. I challenge you to share Jesus and what He has done for you this Easter season with someone who does not yet know Him or accept Him as their Lord and Savior. Jesus has risen from the dead, and He has overcome the world! Surely there is someone in your life who needs to hear this wonderful news. Don’t let Jesus be your best kept secret!

 Luke 23

32 Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. 33 When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. 34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”[c] And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

35 The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”

36 The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar 37 and said, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.”

38 There was a written notice above him, which read: this is the king of the jews.

39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”

40 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

43 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

In your own words, can you describe to someone else who Jesus is to you and how He has impacted your life?
